This song grew out of my complicated relationship with community, especially communities built through creativity, vulnerability, and shared effort. Some things end. Some things break. But even when they don’t last forever, they can still be worth the love, labor, and hope that created them.
Lyrics
[Verse 1] I said, "I am gutted" And I meant every word Not because a platform changed But because I heard All the rooms inside me Start to lose their shape All the hands that built a home Bracing for the scrape [Verse 2] There were meetings full of mercy There were worlds where people stayed There were hours stitched together By the trust that strangers made There were names I still remember There were nights that kept us whole There were places made of pixels That held pieces of a soul [Pre-Chorus] And maybe that sounds foolish To people looking in But some of us found life there Some of us could breathe again [Chorus] We were worth it We were worth the care Worth more than a "for now" Worth more than empty air Worth more than maintenance Worth more than moving on If I keep trying, it's because I know what we became was real and strong [Verse 3] This week moved like weather Too fast to understand Faces, names, and messages Reaching for my hand And I don't want to be a symbol I don't want to be a cry I just wanted someone powerful To look us in the eye [Pre-Chorus] And say, "We know we hurt you" And mean it all the way Not flinch because the backlash came Then slowly look away [Chorus] We were worth it We were worth the care Worth all the awkward tenderness Of learning how to bear Each other through the darkness Each other through the unknown If I keep speaking, it's because I cannot let them say we weren't worth home [Bridge] I wrote to people who had wounded me Not because the wound was gone But because I could not stand To let the last light disappear alone And maybe that is mercy Or maybe just grief with a name But I would rather reach with an open hand Than become the thing that made this pain [Final Chorus] We were worth it We were worth the fight Worth more than a product road map Worth more than one more night Of saying "that's just business" While everything turns cold No, I will keep a candle here For every story still being told [Outro] So if you find me trembling Know I'm trembling with the truth There was love inside these worlds And that love deserved its proof
