Where this comes from
The Wheel of Privilege and Power, developed by Dahooja Tessa Watkins through the Just 1 Voice
project, adapted from Sylvia Duckworth's visual work, the Canadian Council for Refugees'
intersecting identity frameworks, and Olena Hankivsky's scholarship on intersectionality.
"The wheel does not show a hierarchy of virtue. It is not a ranking of who is better or worse,
more oppressed or less. It is a map of where the field's coding produces ease and where it
produces friction."
Fifteen wedges, three rings. For each one, pick where the field tends to place you: the inner ring,
where the room was built around you and rarely asks you to explain yourself; the middle ring, where
you're conditionally tolerated as long as you stay palatable; or the outer ring, where the field
excludes, pathologizes, or renders you invisible. This produces no score. It produces a landscape,
the shape of your own position across all fifteen wedges at once, which is the whole point: the
wedges don't add, they alchemize.
